For three days, the sounds of cannons have rumbled through the peacful pastures of your small family's farm. The sound of gunfire and crying men have become silent in your little town of Gettysburg. It is July 3rd, 1863 and the hot summer sun beats down on the sloping hills and rustic rocks. You are 11 years old and your father has fought for the cause but is in the hospital. Your father has sent word that you must continue with the daily newspaper and report on the war. As the eldest of five children he has left you in charge of his newspaper, "Blue and Gray."
Procedure
You have an important job ahead of you. Are you ready for the challenge? You will have to work late at night by candlelight and in between chores to complete your assignments in time to go to press. You are now acting editor in chief and you must research the topics below and then write your news assignments onthe computer. You will print each story and paste them on a poster boards with your own illustrations. You must include the name of the newspaper , date, your name and issue number (which would be number 1). You will then present your paper to the class.

Final Assignment: You will type up each story on the computer and print them out. You will paste your stories on a piece of poster board ( should include at the top your newspaper's name and a picture: ex.an eagle, cannon etc.) You will conduct a live news cast in front of the class and report your stories.
