PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY

Technology, telecommunications, and the internet have transformed classrooms, industry, government, and even society itself. Given that we live in this new digital age, it is most critical that teachers and students at all levels be prepared to teach and make the best use of technology. Therefore, the instructional technology program at Widener University focuses on teaching educators how to infuse technology to improve their own methods and how to teach others to design, develop, integrate, manage, and evaluate the learning process through the use of all forms of technology.

Widener offers the Instructional Technology Specialist Certification, endorsed by ISTE, and an M.Ed. in Instructional Technology, as well as the Ed.D. in School Administration with an Instructional Technology track. The Center for Education's instructional technology courses are aligned with the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) for administrators, teachers, and students, developed by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and its educational partners.

All instructional technology classes are held in a new state-of-the-art computer lab that includes the following resources:

Fifteen student Windows workstations, all with DVD-RW drives and digital video input.
Six high-end scanners
Six digital video cameras and five digital still cameras for use by master's and undergraduate students; 8 digital SLR cameras and 4 new high end digital video cameras for doctoral students
An educational software library of over 110 titles
A 12-station ibook wireless module
Nine Toshiba tablet PCs
A variety of Assistive Technology hardware & software

CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited Institution
Official transcripts from all previous graduate and undergraduate program with a GPA of at least 3.0
Two letters of recommendation
GRE or Miller Analogies Test scores
A writing sample completed at the Widener University Writing Center
Payment of the nonrefundable application fee
